Mohamed al-Menfi, the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, briefed ambassadors of 14 countries on the latest political, economic, and security developments in Libya. He reaffirmed the Council's support for a path that achieves genuine national consensus, bringing the country closer to holding free and fair elections as soon as possible, and shortening the transitional phases. He emphasized rejection of any arrangements that would reproduce or extend the transitional period. He stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of Libyan institutions and strengthening trust by confronting corruption and organized crime, calling on the international community to support this course. He also affirmed that legitimacy derives from the Libyan people, and that the ballot box is the true path to ending the transitional phase and building lasting institutions. Additionally, he discussed the "4+4" agreement, which set a timeline of 24 months to conduct elections, with an extended deadline for the two councils to accept it until the end of the month, noting that the House of Representatives plans to respond soon.
