The far-right "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) party's victory in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament elections is attributed to a significant increase in votes, with a rise of 23.7 percentage points compared to the previous election, giving it 44.5% of the votes according to exit polls. Although it topped the results, it is expected that the party will not be able to form a government on its own due to lacking an absolute majority. This victory is considered historic and highlights growing voter dissatisfaction in the region, as the party exploited societal fears and anxieties. It is the first victory for a far-right party in a German state election in over 75 years. The final results will be announced soon, but indicators suggest that the party may be approaching an absolute majority to form the government.
