North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to turn the country's navy into a nuclear-powered force. This comes alongside military exercises involving Japan, South Korea, and the United States, aimed at deterring the missile and nuclear threats posed by Pyongyang. During a ceremony in Wonsan, Kim emphasized the need to develop nuclear combat systems and prepare for actual war, making hints that the new warships could serve as platforms for launching tactical nuclear missiles. He also stated that North Korea's plan to strengthen its naval capabilities will be announced within eight months. These developments happen amid ongoing drills designed to bolster nuclear deterrence, even as the United States has reduced its joint training with South Korea in an effort to open diplomatic channels with Pyongyang.
