The state of the healthcare sector in Sudan reflects a significant deterioration resulting from over three years of war. Up to 37% of healthcare facilities are non-operational, and approximately 21 million people need medical services, facing shortages of medicines and rising treatment costs. Some major hospitals in Khartoum have begun gradually resuming their activities, including Omdurman Hospital, which received support from international organizations. Its services have improved with stabilized electricity supply and a greater capacity to conduct surgeries and operations. However, remote areas and thousands of residents still lack basic healthcare services, with no facilities or doctors available. Many families face difficulties accessing treatment, and the services are at risk of further decline due to funding shortages, lack of equipment and medicines. Challenges in combating epidemic diseases such as malaria and cholera continue, especially in conflict-affected regions.
