The Australian government announced its plans to reduce immigration by tightening visa procedures for students, workers, and tourists, with the aim of curbing their use for permanent residence and alleviating pressure on the housing sector. Additional restrictions will be imposed on students' relatives, and it will become more difficult for students to switch between study programs to extend their stays. Meanwhile, work and holiday visa holders in rural areas will have to participate in a lottery system to remain for additional years, with 5,000 visas allocated for the third year. The census revealed that one-third of Australia's 27.6 million residents were born outside the country. Business groups warn that these policies could negatively impact the economy.
