American concern over the potential arrival of Chinese technology for "F-35" fighter jets if the United States agrees to sell 48 fighters to Saudi Arabia for $24 billion. Intelligence reports suggest the possibility of technology smuggling through espionage or partnerships with Saudi Arabia, which uses equipment from Chinese companies such as ZTE and Huawei. The U.S. Department of Defense harbors significant fears regarding advanced radar and reconnaissance systems, while some lawmakers exert pressure to block the sale, fearing a breach of strategic security. Should the sale go through, access to Saudi military facilities could be at risk, and China could gain entry into advanced technologies that might impact the regional balance.
