Reports indicate that U.S. President Donald Trump will welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping onto the plane’s ladder in Washington, in a rare gesture, during his official visit to the United States scheduled for next week. Trump is expected to participate in a welcoming ceremony at Andrews Air Force Base near the capital, despite the usual practice of not greeting visitors upon their arrival. This visit comes amid concerns that Trump may retract support for Taiwan in exchange for economic gains with Beijing, especially as tensions between China and the U.S. escalate and the level of interest in the relationship between the two countries increases. The two leaders are scheduled to hold a summit on September 24.
