China to advance water network development
China intends to accelerate the development of a modern water network from 2026 to 2030, aiming to cover 82% of the country's land by 2030. These efforts include improving flood control systems by strengthening reservoirs, rivers, and dams, as well as updating monitoring and forecasting methods using satellite technology and radar. An additional 15 billion cubic meters will be added to reservoir capacity, and standards will be upgraded for 91% of major dams. The plan also focuses on enhancing water resource management in rural areas, increasing irrigated land to 40 million mu, ensuring 98% coverage of rural drinking water tap connections, and protecting and restoring aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, tackling soil erosion will be part of a comprehensive plan to improve water management and environmental sustainability.
