Israeli Supreme Court OKs Arab Parties for October Elections
The Israeli Supreme Court unanimously approved the candidacy of the two Arab parties, the United Arab List and the Joint List, for the October 27 elections, after the Central Election Commission had previously invalidated their nominations. The commission's decision was based on accusations that they reject Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, incite racial hostility, and support armed struggle against it. Additionally, efforts to disqualify Arab candidate Owser Khasif from the Joint List were also abolished, and the leader of the "Tajamu" party announced his withdrawal from the race following a judicial recommendation. This comes in the context of previous attempts by the commission to prevent Arab parties from participating, which have recurred in recent years, reflecting the political tension surrounding Arab representation in Israeli elections.
