The Wall Street Journal reported that Omani authorities previously barred a Fly Dubai co-pilot from flying within its territory due to concerns related to his adoption of extremist ideas. These measures were taken before the airplane incident, which occurred when the co-pilot attempted to down the aircraft during an emergency landing in Tabuk, leading to the suspension of flights between the UAE and Israel until investigations are complete. These events represent an escalation in tensions between the authorities of the UAE and Oman and highlight the risks of extremism suspected to be present among some members of airline crews.
