Chinese-Emirati Cooperation Yields Date Harvests
The experiment of cultivating Emirati date palms in China has shown remarkable success, with the trees bearing fruit for the first time in inland areas such as Wenzhang, Yunnan, and Sichuan, following the start of growth and fruiting in 2025. Multiple varieties of date palms were planted, achieving actual fruit production within just one year—a faster rate than the usual 3 to 5 years. Efforts were focused on developing propagation techniques and maintaining pest resistance, which enhances the potential for developing the date palm industry within China's tropical and subtropical regions. This progress also underscores growing confidence in localizing date palm cultivation and ensuring sustainable production through the adoption of Arab techniques and expertise.
