Egypt sees drops in cancer cases and deaths
Egypt has experienced a noticeable improvement in cancer indicators from 2018 to 2024, with significant reductions in both incidence and mortality rates. Age-standardized deaths have decreased by 23.1%, from 107.1 cases per 100,000 in 2018 to 82.4 in 2024. Additionally, incidence rates have fallen by 12.3%, from 156.9 to 137.6 cases per 100,000. Efforts to combat liver and breast cancer continue, with mortality rates declining by approximately 14.1% for breast cancer and 31.8% for liver cancer, thanks to expanded early detection and treatment efforts, as well as improved preventive measures. These results are the outcome of the national strategy and enhanced surveillance and early diagnosis initiatives, aimed at reducing the disease burden on society.
