Research links sports to longer cancer survival
A comprehensive study indicates that engaging in organized physical exercise during cancer treatment reduces the risk of death by up to 23%, and decreases the likelihood of cancer recurrence or the development of a new cancer by 17%. It was also associated with an 18% reduction in all-cause mortality and a 26% decrease in death related to cancer. Aerobic exercises alone were linked to a 29% decrease in mortality risk, while combining aerobic exercise with strength training enhanced these benefits by 25%. The study emphasizes that physical activity may influence immunity, blood flow, and hormone regulation, while also supporting the need for further research to determine the optimal type and dosage of exercise.
