Kuwaiti media law broadens social media oversight
The new Kuwaiti Media Regulation Law establishes a comprehensive framework governing all sectors of the media, including press, visual and audio-visual media, electronic media, social media platforms, advertising, content production, news agencies, production companies and cinemas, as well as artistic events. The law aims to modernize regulations in line with technological developments, emphasizing freedom of opinion and expression while safeguarding public order and individual rights. It eliminates prior censorship of books and publications displayed at official book fairs, while imposing fines and penalties on unlicensed entities. The law provides a flexible framework aligned with constitutional principles, improves the regulatory environment for the media industry, and promotes freedoms while maintaining respect for professional responsibilities.
