US Detains Beijing Agent Tracking Taiwan Official's Family
A American woman named Wenning "Heather" Chang, 34 years old, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport before her departure to China, on charges of working for the Chinese government without official registration and surveilling Taiwan President Lai Ching-te and his family within the United States. According to the complaint, Chang had sent Chinese officials photos and videos of her targets, monitored Taiwan’s president's son, and examined their homes, family, and vehicle license plates, using methods to avoid detection. U.S. authorities consider these activities could harm American interests and regional security, and that the information she gathered might be valuable to Beijing, especially given the tensions with Taiwan. Chang will face a court in Los Angeles, but the charges against her are still accusations that have not been proven yet.
