Najaf Airport resumes Iranian flights
The Najaf International Airport in Iraq welcomed its first Iranian plane after a suspension of more than nine days, marking the resumption of flights between Tehran and Najaf. The flight, operated by the Iranian Caspian Airlines, came from Tehran and carried over 150 passengers. This comes following approval from the U.S. government to restart flights, with the exception of Mahan Air, which remains banned due to recent U.S. sanctions against Iranian airlines. The goal of this step is to improve air traffic between Iraq and Iran, amidst ongoing direct negotiations between Iraq and the United States to exempt some Iraqi airports from sanctions.
