Ethiopian Parliament renews Abiy Ahmed as Prime Minister
The Ethiopian Parliament has reappointed Abiy Ahmed as Prime Minister following his party, the Prosperity Party, winning over 90% of the seats in the June 2021 elections. This occurred despite no voting taking place in the Tigray region due to ongoing political turmoil and unrest since the civil war (2020-2022). Since assuming office in 2018 amid widespread protests, Abiy Ahmed has managed to strengthen his rule, with his party controlling the majority of seats in Parliament.
