London considers expelling 27 Israeli diplomats
As the deadline for Israel to close the British consulate in East Jerusalem approaches, the crisis between the two countries escalates. Britain has launched a secret diplomatic attempt to prevent the closure, with sources confirming that it threatened to expel 27 Israeli diplomats if Israel proceeds with shutting down the consulate. The talks have encountered obstacles, as Israel officially announced that the consulate would be closed on Thursday, while British efforts to reach a settlement continue. Additionally, Britain has threatened a diplomatic response by expelling Israeli diplomats, a move that could harm the diplomatic relations between the two countries. The dispute is linked to tensions over Britain's measures against Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which London has announced its intention to impose sanctions on. Israel responded by closing the consulate and scaling back its relations in East Jerusalem.
