Gulf Cup 27: Referee Comments on UAE Penalty Cancellation
The decision to cancel a penalty kick awarded to the UAE national team against Saudi Arabia in the final of Gulf Cup 27 sparked refereeing controversy. The referee used VAR technology to review the incident and showed that the Saudi defender attempted to avoid contact at the last moment, leading to the penalty being overturned. Refereeing expert Ahmed Al-Kaf confirmed that it was a difficult situation and that the use of VAR helped correct the referee's decision, as the initial view suggested a foul deserving of a penalty. The match saw Saudi Arabia scoring two early goals, and the first half ended with them leading 2-0 over the UAE.
