Armenian Parliament Faces Corruption Claims
During a recent session, the Armenian parliament witnessed a fight and hand-to-hand clashes between deputies from the ruling "Civil Contract" party and the opposition "Im Armenia" party. The conflict stemmed from accusations of corruption and allegations of embezzlement of state funds by an opposition deputy, along with a dispute over a government investigation into the Armenian Church's situation. Tensions escalated when the parliamentary speaker cut off a deputy who criticized the government's handling of the church incident, leading to exchanges of insults and eventually a physical altercation, with security forces intervening to separate the MPs. Video footage also showed the dispute continuing outside the chamber, amid opposition accusations of ineffective parliamentary management.
