Beijing Championship: Shifountek ties Serena's record
Polish player Iga Swiatek, ranked ninth worldwide, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Beijing tournament after defeating American player Eva Yufei 6-1, 6-3. This victory equalized Serena Williams' record of 148 wins in 1,000-point tournaments, making Swiatek the second most successful player in this category after Aryna Sabalenka, who has achieved 156 wins. On the other hand, American Coco Gauff was eliminated from the tournament after losing to Mertens. Swiatek will face Belgian Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals, having defeated Gauff for the first time, while Gauff has been struggling with a drop in performance, mentioning that she was "out of energy." The focus of the event is on Swiatek's leading position among the top seeds and expanding her winning record, as she aims for her second title of the season.
