Motorcycles to gain standalone speed race qualification in 2027
The MotoGP World Championship will incorporate the qualifying experience from sprint races to enhance competition and add an element of excitement, starting from the 2027 season. A new 15-minute qualifying session will be held on Fridays, replacing the current standalone practice held on Saturdays that determines the starting grid. The second practice session will be shortened to 30 minutes. These changes aim to strike a balance between attracting fans and increasing the thrill of sprint races. The adjustments are intended to boost excitement in fast-paced, short-format races.
