Syria Denies Expanding Yemen Forces
The article discusses reports about Damascus's consideration of sending Syrian forces to Yemen to assist in the fight against the Houthi movement. Syria has emphasized that its current policy is focused on rebuilding the country and strengthening its institutions, and that military cooperation will only occur through official channels and bilateral frameworks. At the same time, media reports indicate conversations between Syria and Saudi Arabia regarding the possible deployment of Syrian forces to support Saudi Arabia’s offensive against the Houthis, although Syria reiterates its commitment not to open new fronts. It is noted that Syrian intervention in Yemen would entail religious and political risks, especially given Syria’s relations with Iran and past armed opposition, with the current priorities for Syria being internal recovery and achieving stability, rather than direct involvement in the Yemen conflict.
