Gaza Healthcare Collapse After Three Years
The healthcare system in the Gaza Strip is facing a severe deterioration after three years of war, with the number of operational hospitals dropping from 38 to 19 partially functioning ones. The clinical capacity has declined from 3,412 beds before the war to less than 2,600 currently. The sector suffers from a critical shortage of diagnostic devices, with the number of CT scanners decreasing from 18 to just 3, and all MRI machines having stopped working. Additionally, only 45% of essential medicines are available, impacting the treatment of cancer patients and those with chronic illnesses. There are approximately 12,000 cancer patients in need of treatment, and 2,800 patients are awaiting transfer for treatment outside the sector. These figures reflect the overall decline in health conditions due to targeted attacks on healthcare facilities by the Israeli occupation. Israel has failed to honor ceasefire agreements signed since 2025 and lacks sufficient support to enhance medical capacity and provide the necessary medicines and equipment to prevent the worsening of the crisis.
