Saudi Arabia: Houthis refuse peace, we will respond
Saudi Arabia highlighted the Houthis' rejection of the peace initiative they proposed, emphasizing its firm stance on defending its land and citizens from Houthi attacks targeting vital facilities, airports, and civilian sites, which have resulted in the killing and injury of several civilians. The statement pointed out that the Houthis targeted Abha and King Khalid airports in October 2023, leading to the death of three civilians and the injury of 36 others. Additionally, other areas within the kingdom were targeted, causing injuries among civilians. Saudi Arabia affirmed that continued Houthi escalation prolongs the Yemen crisis and hampers international efforts to reach a political solution. The Kingdom reiterated its support for peace initiatives and the efforts of the UN Special Envoy. It declared that it remains committed to defending its sovereignty and security and reserves the right to respond to Houthi attacks. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia noted that its humanitarian and economic support to Yemen has exceeded $12.6 billion since 2012.
