Protests against Pakistani government intensify on seventh day
Protests have intensified in Pakistan through a seven-day march led by supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, demanding his release and protesting his detention, according to the organized movement. The march, which began from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 4th, is heading toward Islamabad amid warnings from the central government to consider declaring a state of emergency to control the situation. The federal government has expressed its intention to take necessary measures to maintain security and order, while Imran Khan, who has been in prison since August 2023, faces political charges. The movement accuses the government of suppressing Khan’s communication with his lawyers and family. Negotiations between the two sides have reached a deadlock, with tensions escalating and concerns growing over the worsening political and economic crisis in Pakistan, fueled by rising fuel and food prices, as well as the impacts of the war in the Middle East and Ukraine.
