China cuts hybrid exports to Europe
The article discusses the European Union's efforts to reset its trade relations with China, particularly in light of the influx of low-cost Chinese imports and their impact on European industries. It covers the recent negotiations held in Beijing, which resulted in key understandings, including China's commitment to reduce its hybrid and rechargeable car exports to Europe, maintain the "price commitment" mechanism for electric vehicles, and uphold tariff facilitation policies on certain European products. The article also addresses ongoing disputes over government support for Chinese industries, the yuan's exchange rate, and expectations to strengthen European trade tools to counteract subsidies and market distortions, with calls for greater balance and protection of European industries against Chinese competition. EU leaders will discuss the outcomes of these negotiations at their upcoming summit, with the trade dialogue between the two sides continuing until March 2027.
