Diesel Putin impacts Trump's campaign
The article discusses the agreement between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russia to supply the United States with additional quantities of diesel, aiming to lower energy prices ahead of the midterm elections. It was clarified that the announced amounts will take weeks to reach consumers and currently have a limited impact on prices, which have increased by 71% over the past year, averaging $6.28 per gallon. The agreement has faced criticism from Democrats, who believe it harms Ukraine and relaxes sanctions on Russia, while Republicans have expressed concerns about its impact on international policies and national security. The political goal behind the agreement is to improve Trump's image and garner electoral gains, despite its limited effect on the energy market and some experts' claims about the difficulty of meeting the global demand for diesel, especially given the damaged refining capacities in Russia and the Middle East.
