Mauritanian Government Confronts Challenges
The Mauritanian presidency announced the formation of a new government led by Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Abdel Jelil, less than 24 hours after his reappointment. The changes include the departure of several veteran ministers, aiming to empower youth and implement reforms. These adjustments come in the context of addressing important issues such as the electricity crisis, with the new minister entrusted with the energy portfolio. He is expected to face challenges related to fires at power stations and to introduce reforms to increase electricity capacity and improve fuel prices, which have surged by approximately 27% over the past three months due to Iran's war, amid an inflation rate of 8.9%. Additionally, the International Monetary Fund has been unable to reach a financial agreement.
