Iran asserts control of Hormuz amid third tanker fire
The Strait of Hormuz has witnessed a buildup of military and Iranian escalation after a third oil tanker collided with a sea mine, igniting a fire. According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the tanker was carrying 750,000 barrels of oil and was attempting to pass through an unapproved strait after ignoring Iranian warnings. Iran accers that the United States is inciting this escalation. In response to the increased tensions, Iranian officials confirmed that Iran controls the strait and that security will not be restored there as long as the United States continues its provocative policies.
