Portugal's history and Ronaldo's recognition
The former Morocco national team coach, Walid Rekragui, criticized the Portuguese Football Federation's treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo, affirming that the latter has not enjoyed widespread appreciation in Portugal as Messi has in Argentina. He explained that Ronaldo has contributed greatly to Portuguese football throughout his career, and his high status does not justify poor treatment toward him—especially following his disagreement with his coach at Al Nassr, Jorge Jesus. Rekragui also pointed out that the recent crisis has negatively impacted the player's image and noted that the collective support and strong backing for Messi in Argentina reflect the difference in appreciation. Argentine players show their full support for Messi during matches, while the Portuguese national team lacked this solidarity at the end of Ronaldo’s career.
