Referees Disagree on Zamalek Penalties
The match between Al-Ahli and Zamalek in Round 6 of the Egyptian Premier League was marked by controversy over the validity of two penalty kicks that were not awarded to Zamalek, related to incidents involving Chico Banana and Ashraf Darwish. European referee expert Urs Mayer stated that the penalty demanded in the 78th minute was not correct, pointing out that the decision not to award it was right. However, he considered that Banana's yellow card for handball was necessary. Conversely, former Egyptian referee Yasser Abdel Rauh believed that the situation merited a penalty based on his analysis, although Nasser Abbas took a different stance, suggesting that the incident should have been reviewed using VAR, noting that there was no foul in the moment when the ball hit Ahmed Fattouh's hand. Former referee Jihad Gjarahsia rejected awarding any penalty to Zamalek and affirmed the correctness of the referee's decisions, praising that there was no impact on the match outcome, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Al-Ahli. After the game, Chico Banana expressed his dissatisfaction with the refereeing via Instagram, continuing the ongoing controversy over the referee's decisions in the match.
