Dahabba Border Tensions and Risks

The article focused on the Egyptian army's campaign to combat the phenomenon of illegal gold mining along the border with Sudan, which began in June and led to the seizure of hundreds of illegal mining cases, using heavy equipment and advanced communication devices. Experts confirmed that this phenomenon poses a threat to national security, as criminal networks are expanding, leveraging the mountainous terrain to hide illegal mining hotspots and exploit them for smuggling weapons, drugs, and humans. They also pointed out that the activities of "dahab" (gold smugglers) threaten the stability of the Egyptian border and increase the likelihood of terrorist group involvement, prompting heightened security measures and increased surveillance to address these issues. In Sudan, the Sovereign Council has formed a committee to investigate the attack targeting Sudanese miners on the border, while Egypt continues its security campaigns against illegal mining activities, emphasizing the need to protect national resources and regional security.
