Tripoli unrest heightens eastern Libya alert
The heavy floods that swept through Tripoli caused significant human and material losses, with at least three people reported dead, and cars and homes destroyed. Roads and public facilities were also disrupted. Libyan authorities in both the east and west responded by raising the alert levels at healthcare and security facilities, forming emergency committees, with heavy rain and air pollution expected to continue. Efforts focused on rescue operations, evacuating stranded individuals, and pumping out water, amid criticism of the inadequate rainwater drainage system and the recurrence of crises. Warnings have been issued about rising valleys and increasing floods as the bad weather persists.
