Iran Woman Executed for Social Media Blasphemy
Human rights groups condemn the increasing executions in Iran, where a 23-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, has been sentenced to death for blasphemy on social media. Amini, who was arrested during the January protests, faces a death sentence for insulting the Prophet after her online accounts were monitored. She is currently detained at the Iranshahr Prison in Mashhad. She was also sentenced to over 12 years in prison. Her case highlights the growing use of the death penalty by Iranian authorities, with more than 600 executions carried out this year, aiming to suppress dissent. Experts warn that the international community must respond quickly to prevent the situation from worsening.
