New bridge boosts China and North Korea trade
The new Yalu River Bridge connecting China and North Korea has been officially opened after a delay of more than 12 years. The bridge is 3 kilometers long, features four lanes, and aims to strengthen economic and trade communication between the two countries. It was originally scheduled to open in 2014, but delays on the North Korean side due to Pyongyang’s concerns about economic dependence on China or disagreements over the location caused disagreements between the parties. The bridge is expected to improve logistics efficiency and reduce pressure on the old bridge, through which more than 70% of official trade between the two countries passes. This comes a month after a Russian company opened a bridge connecting Russia and North Korea, marking an important step in enhancing economic relations between China and North Korea.
