Egypt supports Somalia’s institutional growth
During a telephone call with Somalia, Egypt reaffirmed its ongoing support for strengthening Somalia's capabilities and building its institutions, while emphasizing its rejection of any unilateral measures that threaten Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially amidst the tensions in the Horn of Africa region. The meeting discussed enhancing bilateral relations and economic and developmental cooperation, with Egypt reaffirming its firm and supportive stance on Somalia's unity and sovereignty. These statements come amid escalating regional tensions following Ethiopia's signing of a memorandum of understanding with the self-declared Somaliland region and the violations that Mogadishu considers an attack on its sovereignty. The statement also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts to achieve stability and development in the area, while reaffirming that the involved countries reject any interference that threatens Somalia's unity or recognizes Somaliland's independence.
