APB shifts focus to high-stakes tournaments
The ATP Tour, the professional men's tennis players' association, has focused on reforming the tournament scheduling system and ranking frameworks to better promote the most important 1000-point events, which will receive greater emphasis in the upcoming season. The association proposes eliminating the option to replace poor results in 1000-point tournaments with better performances in lower-tier events, with the aim of reducing overlap and congestion in the schedule between January and November, allowing players to concentrate more on the Grand Slam tournaments. Additionally, the ATP is considering increasing the distribution of ranking points for the final rounds and allocating prize money up to $50 million by 2028 for the top-ranked players, provided they participate in all mandatory 1000-point tournaments, to enhance financial and competitive incentives at the highest level. Final decisions will be made after consultations with stakeholders before the end of the year.
