Fatah: Cairo talks set for national dialogue
The article discusses the efforts of the Palestinian Fatah movement in conducting Egyptian consultations in preparation for launching a comprehensive national dialogue with Hamas and other factions to end the ongoing Palestinian division since 2007. The meetings included a proposal from President Mahmoud Abbas calling for the unification of the Palestinian position through activating a central government representing the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem, and committing to the legitimacy of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and international legitimacy, with an emphasis on peaceful popular resistance. Hamas showed partial responsiveness, while the details of the initiative are currently being discussed with its leadership. Egypt plans to invite factions to attend a potential national dialogue conference. The consultations focus on issues such as elections, the future of the political system, and the unification of institutions, aiming to reach practical understandings to end division and achieve national unity.
