Berlin Marks 85 Years Since Nazi Deportations
The memorial monument "Platform 17" at Grunewald Station in Berlin commemorates thousands of Jews who were deported from the city via trains to Nazi concentration camps during the Nazi era, starting from 1941. The event was held to mark the 85th anniversary of the beginning of systematic deportation operations, attended by political and community figures. Speakers emphasized the importance of remembering this tragic period to prevent the recurrence of racism and hatred. The memorial consists of 186 steel plaques documenting the dates and destinations of the deportations. Officials also stressed the need to combat anti-Semitism and to ensure the rights and safety of Jewish life in Germany in a secure and open environment.
