There have been claims circulating on social media that French authorities blocked the Élysée Palace on Google Maps and Apple Maps before the "Yellow Vest" protests, with images showing the palace and its surrounding area appearing blurry and distorted. However, an investigation confirmed that this blurring has been present on these sites for years and is due to French laws that restrict the photography of sensitive sites, including the Élysée Palace, dating back to 2017. It is not directly related to the protests or the demonstrations of October 2023. This is not a new measure implemented during the current protests but an earlier security measure aimed at protecting national landmarks.
