Egyptian Parliament discusses Saudi support plan
The article discusses Egypt's request for authorization from the House of Representatives to send military forces to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support it if requested. The Egyptian government, led by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, emphasized that supporting Saudi Arabia is a national duty that links the security of the two countries, particularly due to the kingdom's geographical location, which impacts Egyptian security, as well as the economic and strategic relations between the two nations. The House of Representatives extended its discussions amid expectations of approving the authorization, while the Democratic Socialists Party in Egypt indicated its abstention from voting due to the lack of clarity regarding the objectives, costs, and potential risks, calling for peaceful solutions and institutional Arab security cooperation. Egypt also reaffirmed the importance of protecting its strategic interests, especially in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and committed to defending regional security and stability, while urging continued diplomatic efforts to contain regional escalation.
