Egyptian laser weapon Egy Hel 01 capabilities
Egypt has developed a local laser system used to counter drones, with a capacity reaching 20-30 kilowatts, as research centers work to increase its power. The system relies on converting electrical energy into a laser beam directed at the target, causing its destruction through engine combustion or component damage. This technology is less costly than interceptor missiles, and its effectiveness depends on precise detection and weather conditions, with ongoing efforts to improve it to face drone threats, which have become major challenges on the battlefield. This step reflects Egypt’s move towards utilizing directed energy in the military sector to achieve self-sufficiency and enhance defensive capabilities.
