Israel protests Libyan maritime deal with Turkey
Israel strongly condemned the Libyan parliament's approval of a memorandum of understanding to define maritime boundaries with Turkey, considering it a violation of international law and a threat to the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region. This step is part of an ongoing dispute over sovereignty over maritime borders and energy exploration rights, with Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus rejecting the agreement and deeming it inconsistent with their sovereign rights. Turkey welcomed the Libyan parliament's decision, emphasizing that the agreement respects mutual rights and interests, and plans to continue cooperation to ensure stability in the Mediterranean basin.
