Israel responds to Libya's maritime deal
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Libyan House of Representatives in the eastern part of the country for its approval of the memorandum of understanding on maritime borders signed with Turkey in 2019, viewing it as an encroachment on the sovereign rights of the allies in the region. The council voted unanimously to endorse the memorandum and rescind a previous decision rejecting agreements with Turkey. This move comes after years of rejection and indicates a rapprochement between Turkey and eastern Libya, which saw the signing of cooperation and military support agreements in 2019 when the Government of National Accord (GNA) signed treaties with Turkey.
