South Africa faces water pollution impacting over 500 with intestinal diseases
Cities in South Africa, particularly Pretoria, are suffering from deteriorating water quality due to the suspension of chlorine disinfection for three weeks. This has resulted in over 500 people contracting intestinal diseases, mostly children under four years old, experiencing cramps and diarrhea. Emergency tankers and bottled water have been distributed to the residents amid political disputes over the water sanitation issue. Water contamination has led to an increase in illness, with official warnings not to drink tap water due to the health risks posed by untreated water.
