Egypt and Greece consider boundary expansion
Egypt and Greece have reached an agreement to continue consultations aimed at expanding the maritime boundary delimitation agreement signed between them in 2020, which defines a Exclusive Economic Zone in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The goal of this expansion is to exploit natural resources such as oil and gas, especially amid regional tensions with Turkey over exploration rights and maritime boundaries. Greece considers that the expansion efforts are intended to protect its rights in the area surrounding Crete and expose the memoranda of understanding between Turkey and Libya, which it opposes. These developments come amid escalating regional disputes over energy resources and maritime borders in the eastern Mediterranean.
