Egypt faces pressure over fuel price hikes
The article reveals the challenges facing the Egyptian government regarding the energy crisis, as it faces tough choices to raise fuel prices due to the rise in global oil prices, which have exceeded $110 per barrel, and the increase in the value of the dollar against the pound, surpassing 55 pounds. Despite hints from the government about increasing fuel prices, it currently prefers to keep prices stable until the end of the year, with the possibility of implementing a direct increase or reducing electricity loads as potential future options. President Sisi confirmed that the state bears a large part of the energy costs and that current prices are below the actual cost, highlighting the need for greater financing and public awareness. Meanwhile, observers expect the government to continue these policies to promote the use of renewable energy and reduce reliance on imports.
