Netanyahu's Somalia map raises division concerns

Reaffirming Somalia's unity and Israel's rejection of a controversial map proposal, the Federal Somali government has emphasized that Somali territories, including the regions of Somaliland and Puntland, are an integral part of the country. Any attempt to alter borders or depict these regions as independent states is regarded as a violation of national sovereignty. This statement came in response to a map presented by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which depicted Puntland and Somaliland as two separate countries. Mogadishu considered this an encroachment on national unity, especially since the two regions face deep-seated disagreements with the central government and hold strategic positions along the Gulf of Aden. The government asserts that the map represents an attempt to fragment the nation and calls on the international community to respect Somali sovereignty. Meanwhile, internal political tensions between the federal government and Puntland underscore the importance of dialogue to prevent further escalation.
