Turkey and Egypt discuss Libya maritime deal
Turkey discussed with Egypt a draft agreement on the delimitation of the maritime borders with Libya, which has faced criticism from Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus after it was ratified by the Eastern Libyan Parliament. The Turkish Foreign Minister affirmed that Ankara is capable of alleviating Cairo’s concerns, and that current conditions are favorable for uniting the Libyan factions, with the expectation of announcing good news soon. On its part, Egypt refused to ratify the maritime boundary agreement between Libya and Turkey, signed in 2019, emphasizing respect for international law and highlighting the importance of Libya’s unity and stability amid the ongoing disputes in the Mediterranean over resource rights and influence.
